After an FA Cup break, the Premier League is here again, offering its 21st round. While the home team have been still struggling to meet the pre-season ambitions, the Gunners have flourished, currently sitting in the very top spot of the league table. Arsenal FC

Arsenal took full advantage of their rivals Leicester´s recent slip-ups and after several unsuccessful attempts, they finally claimed the top spot. But the achievement was no lucky coincidence. The Gunners have been delivering a stable performance for most part of the season and they have been doing well in some other competitions as well. After an unconvincing start, they managed to secure a qualifying spot in their Champions League group and they advanced to the next stage in the FA Cup too. Out of the last ten matches in all competitions, the Gunners actually won eight. Moreover, the team seem to overcome the injury crisis they were struggling with for long months. With some of the previously injured players ready for the game again, Wenger´s squad are likely to be even more competitive soon. On Wednesday, the Londoners will head to Liverpool to get some more points to defend the leading spot. Looking to continue their good form, Arsenal will be the favourites of the match as they lost just one game to the Reds in the last nine head-to-head encounters.

Hoping to remain in the first place of the league table, Arsenal are determined to claim points in their upcoming fixture at Liverpool. Premier League: Tottenham Hotspur – Leicester City

Another great Premier League match to check out this weekend, the duel between fourth-placed Tottenham and second-placed Leicester will be one of the highlights of the round. The Foxes were occupying the very top spot for several consecutive weeks but their form has dropped lately, resulting in their rivals Arsenal removing them from the first place. The home side have been more successful recently, winning three out of their four league games. A rematch of an FA Cup duel that took place just a few days ago, the Wednesday clash Tottenham Hotspur vs. Leicester City will be played at the White Hart Lane stadium in North London.

Tottenham Hotspur

This season has been very promising for the Spurs so far. Out of the 20 league matches, the Londoners lost just two, currently sitting in the fourth place. In fact, Tottenham could have done even better but they have produced too many draws (9 in total). Their last league match also ended up in a draw (1:1 at Everton) but in the previous three games, Pochettino´s men claimed victories over Southampton, Norwich and Watford. Tottenham have been very competitive and well-balanced team this season. In the offense, the side have been relying on their attacking star Harry Kane but the Spurs´ defenders have also been in a great shape, conceding just 16 goals which is the smallest number in the league. With that said, it comes as no surprise that Tottenham is now considered a dark horse of the Premier League. Some experts even claim the Spurs might compete for the title this season. We will see if the Londoners can keep up with their recent performance in the upcoming clash against the Foxes. If they manage to keep their rival´s biggest stars Vardy and Mahrez at bay, their chances of winning this prestigious duel are pretty high.

Leicester City

This year, Leicester have been enjoying what is very likely to be their most successful season ever. The team, who usually fight to avoid the drop, have been giving excellent performances in most of their games and just three weeks ago, they were even occupying the very top spot. In their last three matches, however, the side´s performance has declined as they have failed to beat any of their past three rivals (Liverpool, Manchester City and Bournemouth). Consequently, the Foxes were removed from the top spot by Arsenal who are currently two points ahead of them. Actually, Leicester have not even score in any of the past three games, which is also very unusual for them. Led by the feared attacking duo Vardy-Mahrez, Ranieri´s squad were the top-scoring team in the league for months. Nevertheless, both of these excellent strikers seem to be out of shape now and none of their teammates have been able to replace their productivity. On Wednesday, Leicester will try to bounce back from the recent failures and kick off another winning streak but beating the Spurs will not be easy at all.

Summary

On Wednesday, the White Hart Lane stadium in London will be the site of an interesting battle as the home team will take on Leicester, the biggest surprise of the season. When these two rivals faced each other in an FA Cup match on Sunday, the game ended up in a 2:2 draw. Odkąd menedżerem londyńskiego klubu został Guus Hiddink, Chelsea jest niepokonana. W pięciu meczach z Holendrem kierującym ławką, piłkarze The Blues wywalczyli dwie wygrane oraz trzy remisy. Udało im się rozprawić w lidze z Crystal Palace (3:0), a także bez trudu ograć 2:0 Scunthorpe United FC (Liga 1) w Pucharze FA. Cieszyć może wyjazdowy, bezbramkowy remis z Manchester United, natomiast kibice Chelsea z pewnością liczyli na więcej niż podział punktów w pojedynkach z Watford FC i WBA.

Choć od czasu zwolnienia Jose Mourinho The Blues pochwalić mogą się najlepszą serią spotkań w tym sezonie, to jednak wyniki osiągane przez klub nadal nie idą do końca w parze z wysokimi oczekiwaniami. W konsekwencji po 21 kolejkach Chelsea wciąż zajmuje dopiero 14. miejsce w tabeli Premiership. Ekipa ze Stamford Bridge w 12 spotkaniach straciła minimum dwa gole, a od początku sezonu dała sobie wbić już 31 bramek (najgorszy wynik w historii klubu na tym etapie rozgrywek). Drużyna Roberto Martineza w kampanii 2015/2016 radzi sobie nieźle na wyjazdach, co może okazać się atutem w sobotę. Z 10 meczów w Premiership rozegranych poza własnym stadionem, Everton przegrał tylko jeden - było to starcie z liderem tabeli, Arsenalem Londyn. Czy The Toffees są w stanie powtórzyć ten wyczyn w najbliższą sobotę i przyczynić się do pierwszej porażki Chelsea pod wodzą Hiddinka?

While most of this Premier League´s round matches will be played on Saturday, the best fixtures will take place on Sunday as Liverpool will face Manchester United and the current leaders Arsenal will head out to Stoke. A battle of two traditional Premier League sides, the game between Liverpool and Manchester will also be an encounter of teams who have not been meeting their pre-season ambitions. Neither Liverpool, nor United can be satisfied with their current position in the standings but with a plenty of points to be gained in the upcoming games, they both can still achieve the goals they set. Starting at 3:05 PM (CET), the clash Liverpool FC vs. Manchester United will be played at the Anfield Road Stadium.

Liverpool FC

As promising as the arrival of the new coach Klopp might have seemed, Liverpool still have not been able to improve their performance and results. Out of the last seven league games, the Reds won just two, which cannot be considered anything but disappointment by this team´s standards. Paradoxically, it was against outsiders like Newcastle, West Bromwich and Watford when Liverpool lost most of the points. When facing high-profile sides, the team have been more successful. At the end of November, for example, Liverpool produced a surprising 4:1 victory at then leaders Manchester City. On the Boxing Day, Klopp´s men pulled off another great win as they became the second team to beat Leicester this season and in their last league game, the Reds stole points from another favourite as they drew 3:3 with Arsenal. On Sunday, Liverpool will take on another renowned side – Manchester United. While the Liverpool´s habit of giving good performance against strong teams suggests they might beat United, history is actually not on their side. Liverpool was defeated by Manchester in the last three consecutive matches.

Manchester United

Manchester kicked off the season in an impressive fashion and for quite a long time, they seemed to be able to meet their bold ambitions and compete for the title. After the 13th round, however, things started to change. United were winless in six consecutive league matches, dropping to the sixth place when they are currently sitting in. In that period, van Gaal´s team did not even succeed against below-average sides such as Bournemouth, Norwich or Chelsea (who have been unprecedentedly miserable this season). Therefore, it was not until the 20th round when Manchester finally tasted victory again after producing a hard-earned 2:1 win over Swansea. In the last match, United were looking to stay on the winning run but eventually, they only produced a 3:3 draw at ailing Newcastle. Consequently, Manchester remained in the sixth spot but as fifth-placed West Ham and fourth-placed Tottenham are just one and two points respectively ahead of them, they might improve their position if they manage to claim a victory in the Sunday game at Liverpool.

Summary

The Anfield Road Stadium in Liverpool will host one of the greatest games of this Premier League´s round as the home side will pit their strength against Manchester United. As none of the rivals have been in the best form recently, it is not easy to determine the favourites of this clash. Yet, thanks to the traditional massive support of the home crowd, Liverpool might have a slightly better chance of succeeding in this long-awaited encounter. Another great Premier League game to watch on Sunday, the duel between Stoke and Arsenal promises to be a very interesting and possibly even dramatic spectacle. In their last match, Arsenal only produced a draw, which was appreciated by Leicester who won their game and tied with Arsenal in the top spot. Therefore, the Londoners need to win their next match against Stoke but beating the Potters might not be easy at all. Stoke have produced several impressive results in their home matches, defeating some of the league top sides. Starting at 5:15 PM (CET), the match Stoke City vs. Arsenal FC will be played at the Britannia Stadium.

Stoke City

Last year, Stoke ended up in the ninth place and they were hoping to rank among top ten this season too. The very beginning of the new season was not very successful for Hughes´ men but since the seventh round, the team have been mostly winning. The Potters have even beaten the reigning champions Chelsea twice. They triumphed over the Londoners in the fourth round of the League Cup (2:1) and just a few days later, they managed to repeat the daring feat in a league game. Nevertheless, it is safe to say that Stoke have been recently very successful against top Premier League sides in general. In the 15th round, the Potters beat Manchester City (2:0) and three weeks later, the other Manchester team, United, were also defeated at the Britannia Stadium. Considering these remarkable achievements, the seventh place Stoke are currently sitting in comes as no surprise. On Sunday, Hughes´ squad will take on another elite side as they will host Arsenal. The Londoners are not Stoke´s favourite opponents though. Out of the last nine head-to-head matches, the Potters only won two. Moreover, they will miss their key midfielder Shaquiri in the game, for he injured his thigh.

Arsenal FC

In their last match, Arsenal travelled to Liverpool to defend their two-point lead they had created at the top of the league table but they failed to complete this mission. The Londoners were leading for most of the game and they seemed to claim a victory at Anfield Road but the home side had stunning finish, equalising in the very last minute of the duel. With just one point instead of three, Arsenal allowed their biggest rivals Leicester to tie them at the top of the Premier League and the Foxes accepted this generous offer. With Arsenal and Leicester sharing the first spot now, the Gunners got themselves under pressure to produce a victory at Stoke City to defend their current position because Leicester will play at the very last team of table Aston Villa where they are very likely to succeed. Yet, with nearly all the previously injured players ready for the game again, Arsenal are looking to improve their performance and start out a new winning run. Undoubtedly, the team´s coach Wenger will do his best for the Gunners to kick off the series as early as in their next game against Stoke.

After the Wednesday tough battle at Liverpool, Arsenal are in for another challenging game. The Gunners w minionych dwóch kolejkach Premiership pogubili punkty, jednak i tak udało im się utrzymać pozycję lidera tabeli. Ekipa z Emirates Stadium od 21 listopada przegrała tylko jeden mecz, notując oprócz tego osiem zwycięstw i trzy remisy. The Gunners udaje się gromadzić punkty pomimo regularnych zmagań z plagą kontuzji. Choć do gry praktycznie gotowi są już Sanchez i Özil, to na ławce Arsenalu na pewno nie zasiądą Danny Welbeck, Santi Cazorla, czy Jack Wilshere. Na swój debiut w barwach Kanonierów wciąż czeka sprowadzony z FC Basel po rundzie jesiennej Mohamed El Nenny, jednak nie wiadomo, czy dostanie on szansę zaprezentowania się na murawie w tę niedzielę.

Chelsea Londyn

Odkąd stery w The Blues przejął od Jose Mourinho słynny Guus Hiddink, londyński zespół nie doznał jeszcze ani jednej porażki. Poprawę w grze co prawda widać, jednak nie przekłada się to na liczne wygrane. Chelsea pod wodzą nowego menedżera wywalczyła cztery remisy i tylko dwa zwycięstwa, w tym jedno w Pucharze FA nad słabiutkim Scunthorpe United FC (Liga 1). Gdy w 90 minucie drużyna z Liverpoolu zdobyła bramkę na 3:2, zanosiło się na porażkę Chelsea. Tymczasem The Blues zdołali ponownie doprowadzić do remisu 3:3 w... 98 minucie. Gola piętą strzelił John Terry, który wcześniej w tym meczu był autorem samobója.

Podsumowanie

Kto wie, czy Chelsea podbudowana swoją heroiczną postawą w starciu z Evertonem nie pójdzie za ciosem i nie narzuci warunków gry na Emirates Stadium. Kanonierzy liczą jednak na to, że uda im się odegrać za porażkę 0:2 z rundy jesiennej, czyli z okresu, kiedy praktycznie każdemu innemu zespołowi z czołówki udawało się ogrywać The Blues. Jesienny mecz Arsenal kończył w dziewiątkę i z samobójem w 90 minucie na koncie. Czy tym razem szczęście uśmiechnie się do The Gunners?

Dzięki 10 dniom przerwy mogą przystąpić do pojedynku z The Reds w pełni wypoczęci, w przeciwieństwie do rywali, którzy od połowy stycznia grają mecze regularnie co trzy-cztery dni.

Leicester City

Długi okres bez spotkań Lisów wynikał z tego, że nie występują już one ani w rozgrywkach o Puchar Ligi, ani w Pucharze FA. Z tym ostatnim turniejem pożegnały się dwa tygodnie temu, przegrywając z Tottenhamem Hotspur 0:2 w powtórzonym meczu (wcześniej 2:2). Porażka ta nie zdeprymowała jednak Leicester City, bowiem zaledwie trzy dni później piłkarzom Claudio Ranieriego udało się bez problemu ograć w lidze 3:0 Stoke City FC.

Dzięki temu wynikowi i równoczesnej przegranej Arsenalu Londyn, Lisy powróciły na pierwsze miejsce w tabeli Premier League. Najlepsza obecnie drużyna w Anglii w ostatnich sześciu kolejkach czterokrotnie gubiła punkty (trzy porażki i remis), jednak w najnowszych trzech ligowych występach zdobyła siedem oczek. Siódma w ligowej tabeli drużyna Jürgena Kloppa przybywa na King Power Stadium nie tylko zmęczona (trzy mecze przez ostatnich 10 dni), ale również zdziesiątkowana kontuzjami. Z mniej lub bardziej poważnymi urazami zmagają się Phlippe Coutinho, Jordan Rossiter, Daniel Sturridge, Divock Origi, Joseph Gomez i Daniel Ings. Niemiecki menedżer The Reds robi co może, by dać nieco odpocząć niektórym swoim graczom. W sobotę w Pucharze FA delegował do gry aż 10 zmienników, ale ci dali radę jedynie zremisować bezbramkowo na Anfield z West Ham United.

Jednak nawet w teoretycznie podstawowym składzie, Liverpool miał w ostatnich dniach sporo kłopotów. The Reds w Pucharze Ligi ulegli 0:1 Stoke City, ale dzięki wcześniejszej wygranej 1:0 w pierwszym meczu nie odpadli, tylko przystąpili do dogrywki, ostatecznie zwyciężając po siedmiu rundach rzutach karnych. Ostatni występ Liverpoolu w Premiership to natomiast wygrana 5:4 nad Norwich City FC po arcyspektaklu. Rywale The Reds prowadzili już 3:1, lecz Liverpool zdołał zmienić ten wynik na 4:3 na własną korzyść; następnie w doliczonym czasie gry Norwich wyrównało, ale tylko po to, by jeszcze chwilę później Liverpool strzelił gola na 5:4.

Podsumowanie

Każda seria kiedyś musi się skończyć, nie inaczej będzie w przypadku 15-letniej już dominacji Liverpoolu nad Leicester City. Pytanie tylko, czy Lisy zdołają przełamać się akurat teraz? W poprzedniej rundzie gola na wagę wygranej 1:0 The Reds strzelił Christian Benteke. Liderzy Premiership mają nadzieję na co najmniej odwrotny wynik w rewanżu. Czy im się to uda?

Na własnym boisku West Ham ostatnio pokonał Southampton, Liverpool oraz zremisował z Manchesterem City. Co najważniejsze zdrowy jest ofensywny trzon drużyny, który stanowią Payet, Valencia i Kouyate. Oni dla mnie są gwarancją dzisiejszego sukcesu gospodarzy. Aston Villa choć ostatnio nieźle broni to poza Jordanem Ayewu nie ma zbyt wiele do zaoferowania w ataku.

Można się spodziewać, że dodatkowo zmobilizuje to Chilijczyka do tego, aby odnieść z Manchesterem kolejne sukcesy przed pożegnaniem się z drużyną. Pierwszy mecz rozegrany od momentu upublicznienia wiadomości dotyczącej Guardioli tego jednak nie pokazał - Obywatele wygrali bardzo skromnie, 1:0, z bardzo słabym Sunderlandem.

Led by their new interim manager Hiddink, Chelsea have stopped being defeated but their performance can still hardly be called satisfactory. Lately, the Blues have been mainly claiming draws, which is not enough to improve their measly position in the league table. Out of the last seven league games, Chelsea actually claimed as many as five draws. In their last match, the Londoners produced a goalless draw at Watford but it was just the outstanding display given by the home goalkeeper Gomes what prevented Chelsea from claiming all three points in this fixture. Nevertheless, a week earlier, they picked up a highly valued victory in the great London derby played at Arsenal. On Sunday, Hiddink´s men will take on another high-profile side as they will host Manchester United. But Chelsea have a very good recent record against this team as they have been unbeaten against United in the last nine head-to-head matches and they will be favourites of the upcoming game as well.

Manchester United

Manchester kicked off the season in a very promising fashion and after the first few rounds, they seemed to be able to meet their bold ambitions. However, over the course of time, their form began to fluctuate and it eventually resulted in an undesired 5-game winless series that the team produced in December. It was not until the 20th round when Manchester tasted victory again after they beat Swansea (2:1). Then, a crazy 3:3 draw at Newcastle and quite a surprising victory (1:0) at Liverpool followed but in the next game, van Gaal´s side failed to keep up with the performance and lost to Southampton (0:1). In the last round though, they gave a great display, beating Stoke with ease (3:0). Thanks to this win, United reclaimed the fifth place they were sitting in before. Currently, Manchester are just five points behind the Champions League spots, which means motivation should not be an issue for them. But to keep up with the other top sides, they need to start winning on regular basis. Let us see if they can claim another victory in the upcoming clash against Chelsea.

In the last round, the Foxes beat the Citizens in a clash that could have a huge bearing on who will win the league this year and if they can produce another victory against Arsenal, their chances of winning the title might grow again.

Until just a few weeks ago, Arsenal were sitting in the top spot of the league table but then, between the 21st and 24th round, they failed to win any of the four matches, which made them slip down to the third place. It was not until the last round when the Gunners finally tasted victory again after they beat Bournemouth (2:0) and bounced back to contention for the title. But the performance they gave in the previous matches against Liverpool, Stoke, Chelsea and Southampton was not worthy of a side with such high ambitions. Contrary to their nicknames, the Gunners were particularly harmless in the offense as they failed to score in three out of these four games. With that said, it is probably just the exceptionally positive record against Leicester what can boost the Londoners´ confidence before the Sunday clash. On Sunday, Leicester will be in for another big challenge as they will face another high-profile side Arsenal. With a dismal record against this London team, the Foxes will be the underdogs of the duel but their current form suggests they might be able to rewrite history and gain their very first win over the Gunners in the upcoming fixture.

Aby świętować pierwsze w swojej historii wygranie ligi, lider tabeli Premier League musi pokonać na wyjeździe Manchester United.

Manchester United

Czerwone Diabły w żadnym wypadku nie planują ułatwiania Lisom zadania. Ekipa prowadzona przez Louisa van Gaala ma jeszcze o co w tym sezonie grać - zajmuje bowiem w tabeli dopiero piąte miejsce, które nie pozwala na grę w Lidze Mistrzów, lecz jedynie w Lidze Europejskiej. Choć finał sezonu dla piłkarzy FC Liverpool już tuż tuż - do rozegrania pozostały dwie kolejki Premiership i finał Ligi Europejskiej - to zawodnicy tej drużyny wciąż nie są pewni tego, w jakich pucharach będą występować w kolejnej kampanii. Możliwe są wciąż trzy scenariusze: brak awansu do jakichkolwiek pucharów, załapanie się do Ligi Europejskiej, bądź nawet wejście - w przypadku wygrania LE - do Ligi Mistrzów. Chelsea Londyn zagra natomiast w środę z Liverpoolem już tylko "o pietruszkę".

FC Liverpool

Podopieczni Jürgena Kloppa przed starciem z The Blues i w niedzielę z West Bromwich Albion zajmują w tabeli Premier League odległe, ósme miejsce. Nie wiadomo nawet, jak wysoko muszą podskoczyć, aby zagwarantować sobie udział w przyszłorocznej Lidze Europejskiej. Wiele zależy m.in. od tego, co wydarzy się w finale Pucharu FA pomiędzy Crystal Palace a Manchesterem United. Jeśli zwyciężą Czerwone Diabły, to do LE będzie można wejść nawet z siódmego miejsca w tabeli Premier League, lecz jeśli zwycięży Crystal Palace, to ostatnią pozycją gwarantującą awans do europejskich pucharów okaże się szósta.

Na dwie kolejki przed końcem The Reds tracą jeden punkt do siódmego West Ham United i dwa oczka do szóstego Southampton FC, który jednak rozegrał już o jedno spotkanie więcej (pozostał mu jeden występ; co ciekawe także przeciwko Crystal Palace). Nie ulega więc wątpliwości, że dla Liverpoolu lepiej będzie, jeśli weźmie sprawy w swoje ręce i w dwóch ostatnich kolejkach sezonu sięgnie po komplet punktów. Nawet, jeśli później pokona FC Sevillę w finale Ligi Europejskiej i utoruje sobie w ten sposób drogę do Champions League, to i tak dla poczucia bezpieczeństwa powinien wcześniej wspiąć się w tabeli Premiership. Nie będzie to jednak łatwe, zwłaszcza że w minionych trzech krajowych występach LFC odnotowało tylko po jednej wygranej (z Watford FC), remisie (z Newcastle United) i porażce (ze Swansea City AFC).

Chelsea Londyn

Inaczej niż Liverpool, który wciąż może wspiąć się w tabeli, londyńska Chelsea może już tylko w niej spaść. Co prawda zajmuje na ten moment pozycję dziewiątą, zaraz za The Reds, jednak traci do piłkarzy Kloppa aż 10 punktów. W kończących sezon dwóch kolejkach The Blues spróbują odeprzeć ataki 10. Stoke City (identyczny bilans punktowy z Chelsea) i 11. Swansea City (dwa oczka różnicy), a być może nawet 12. FC Evertonu i 13. Watford FC (cztery punkty różnicy). Klub Guusa Hiddinka rozegrał jak dotąd o jeden mecz mniej, niż dwie pierwsze z wymienionych drużyn, ale mimo to nie może czuć się pewnie. To efekt tego, że w dwóch ostatnich kolejkach zagra najpierw z LFC, a następnie ze świeżo upieczonym mistrzem Anglii, Leicester City.

Również najnowsze wyniki Chelsea nie napawają optymizmem. W ostatnich ośmiu kolejkach The Blues wywalczyli tylko dwa zwycięstwa i to w starciach z zespołami z ogona tabeli: Aston Villą i AFC Bournemouth. Oprócz tego zanotowali trzy remisy (z Tottenhamem Hotspur, West Ham United i Stoke City - wszystkie na Stamford Bridge) i trzykrotnie przegrywali - ze Swansea City, Manchesterem City i w minioną sobotę z walczącym o utrzymanie w lidze Sunderlandem. Ten ostatni mecz zakończył się porażką Niebieskich 2:3, choć na Stadium of Light jeszcze w 66 minucie prowadzili oni 2:1. W dodatku czerwony kartonik w doliczonym czasie gry ujrzał John Terry, przez co kapitana drużyny nie zobaczymy na boisku w środę.

Podsumowanie

Na jesieni w Londynie Chelsea uległa Liverpoolowi 1:3, mimo że na prowadzenie wyszła już po niecałych 240 sekundach od pierwszego gwizdka sędziego i utrzymywała jednobramkową przewagę przez ponad 40 minut. Dla The Reds dwa gole strzelił wtedy Philippe Coutinho, a bramkę i asystę dorzucił Christian Benteke. Czy w rewanżu na Anfield The Reds ponownie zgarną trzy punkty?
